By Erin K. Costello Let's first be honest, this has fuck all to do with “freedom.” Having a lack of freedoms means you do not have a choice or only have limited or tragic choices available. No. Instead, this is more of a human rights issue; the right to not fall victim to suffering or death at the hands of negligence or indifference. The writing of this blog post began with a Kate Tietje, or MAM, Facebook post..... By Erin K. Costello
By Erin K. Costello I’m going to break this post down in a couple areas and take apart MAM’s sentences because, to me, they do not make any sense. When I read posts like this from MAM, I can’t find a thought pattern. I don’t see how she starts at one idea or premise and then ends up where she ends. I don’t see the steps in her thought process, I don’t see any connections, I can’t find her logic, or any logic. Maybe I overthink things too much? But I can’t compare my thinking to determine it to be overthinking or not when it’s being compared to something with such a lack of thinking. Let me explain my take on this post by MAM. By: Erin K. Costello Who is Dr. Eve Krief? To put it briefly, because if I don’t keep it brief I could type all night long answering this question, Dr. Eve Krief is a Huntington pediatrician who has been a vocal supporter of children's rights to vaccinations for some time. This past December at the state NOW (National Organization for Women) conference, Dr. Krief, founder of Long Island Inclusive Communities Against Hate, which is aimed at building respect and understanding in communities of diversity, was honored for her efforts and received a Susan B. Anthony award. Dr. Krief is also on the executive committee of the Long Island-Brooklyn/Queens chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics where she works as a Legislative Advocacy chair. In recent years she has been an outspoken activist fighting for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), women’s reproductive rights, abortion rights, and keeping families together instead of torn apart from each other in immigration detention facilities. Dr. Krief has also received the American Academy of Pediatrics Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019, as well as a New York State Senate Commendation Award. This is all just to name a few.... By: Guest Writer If you have not heard of Brian Festa, allow me to introduce you. Brian Festa is the co-founder of CT Freedom Alliance (CFA), a highly active anti-vaccine group in the state of Connecticut. CFA has been working very hard to kill HB5044, a bill that aims to remove the religious exemption option to vaccinations. Before last week I was unfamiliar with both Brain Festa and CFA. You see, I am a huge proponent of vaccines. I have been involved in the vaccine debate and discussion as an activist for more than a year. My efforts have involved correcting misinformation online, and even helping several people on social media overcome their vaccine hesitancy and decide to get vaccinated! So, it was only natural that when I learned of a bill proposing the removal of religious exemptions in my state, that I would want to become involved. One way I have done this is by helping legislators on social media when they get bombarded with misinformation and threats from anti-vaxxers. It was in the comment section on Representative Liz Linehan's Facebook page when I had my first interaction with Brian Festa, on a thread that has since been deleted. On the thread, Brian, claiming to be a lawyer, (I did not believe this at first, but alas, he is a lawyer) claimed that because of vaccine exemptions, Connecticut did not have vaccine mandates, nor had the state had vaccine mandates for decades. I kid you not! There, on a public post thread was this lawyer not understanding what vaccine mandates are and that they do exist, regardless of exemptions. At that point he became a blip on my radar, though I did not give him much thought seeing as I did not know or care who he was, or that he was a co-founder of CFA. By Erin K Cosello

By Erin K. Costello Sunday night I received a message request in my Facebook Messenger from a woman named Elizabeth Sequoria. She sent me a voice message and sounded quite upset over the fact I had commented on a post. I commented after being tagged in a comment about the trustworthiness and past arrest record of Catie Colbes. The post itself was about a little baby that was rushed to the hospital for seizures. But, like the good anti-vaccine vultures they are, Larry Cook and Catie Colbes had commented to the mother of the baby to claim, in their complete and total lack of education or experience on the matter, that vaccinations were the cause of her child’s ailment. It was in response to their swooping in that another person had tagged me and mentioned Catie’s arrest record. I replied by listing the three times Ms. Clobes was arrested in the past and I offered to provide links if they so wished, but it would have to wait until later since I was on my way out the door at that time. I’m writing this blog post to both call attention to the behavior of anti-vaccination advocates as well as address some of the things mentioned in these voice messages, because I am a little petty like that. |
