If You Think This Comment is Creepy and Harassing, Stay the Hell Away From YouTube Comments.5/30/2019 By Erin K. Costello Correction: The post discussed here in Kate's Facebook group by Kate was also made to her public Facebook profile. In a recent post to her Facebook group, Modern Alternative Mamas!, Kate Tietje, the Modern Alternative Mama, called attention to a “message” she received. The quotations are added there because that is the word Kate used in her post. It wasn’t a message though, it was a public comment left on a public post that Kate posted to her public Facebook page. The comment has been there since yesterday and Kate made her group post about the comment a few hours after the comment was made. It’s likely that Kate did this due to only a few people calling attention to the comment and offering Kate their undying support. The comment in question is still up and can be found here, though I am expecting Kate to remove it sometime soon or make the post private. I’ve included the screen shot below in case that should happen. Would you call this Facebook comment typical of obsessive stalking behavior? In this group post by Kate, she accuses the person commenting, and everyone else who keeps an eye on the things Kate does or says, of being obsessed, needing professional help, having nothing better to do, having no life, and calls our mental health into question. I don’t really are about all of that though. In fact, I’m not going to argue any of her very rude comments about those of us who cover her dangerous advice since they are only made to gaslight those of us reading them. Instead, I’m going to tell some stories… **Screen shots supporting each of these stories can be found here on the website. HB 559 Back in May of 2018, Ohio was considering a public health bill called HB559. This bill aimed to make amendments to obtaining non-medical exemptions regarding vaccinations. One of the supporters of said bill was the CEO for the Ohio chapter AAP. This person was a very private person. She had posted and tweeted her support for the bill because it was, quite literally, her fucking job. She did not insult anyone, reference anyone, or gaslight anyone. Her presence on social media was not one of a public figure. Besides the occasional picture posted of groceries and friends in t-shirts that supported her job, she did not share much about herself or her beliefs. BUT…..since she posted in favor of HB559..... KATE WAS NOT HAVING THAT! Kate, who is NOT a private person on social media, then posted a series of Facebook posts directed at the CEO. This went on for days. Kate also blasted the CEO’s email address and asked her followers, people from all over the country, not just Ohio, to reach out to the CEO and “educate” her. Kate’s page has almost 75K followers and her group has almost 26K members. Kate reached out to both page followers and group members. Kate’s minions did not disappoint. You can read all about it here. Kate and the Skeptical OB A while ago, in June of 2017, Dr. Amy Tuteur wrote an article for her website, Skeptical OB, titled “Modern Alternative Mama and the ugliest parenting post I’ve ever read.” This post by Dr Amy was in reference to a post by Kate years on Babble, however you can now only find the post here, through the wayback machine. Dr. Amy has written about Kate many times over the years calling out Kate’s hypocrisy and dangerously wrong medical beliefs. It had not been a secret that Kate disliked Dr Amy, however, it was this June 2017 Skeptical OB post that really set Kate off. And, as usual….. KATE WAS NOT HAVING THAT! Kate then posted a series of posts asking for people to report the Facebook page Skeptical OB. This thread went on for a while discussing all the ways they should ruin Dr. Amy or cause her harm in her life. Now, for granted, Dr. Amy does have a public image online and offline. She's a known advocate for women. It stands to reason that she should expect some haters. But the Ohio AAP CEO does not have a public image on social media. Also, facing haters is one thing. Facing false reports on your social media accounts or other ways to be ruined is another thing. During this time Kate also asked her army to mass report the group Banned By MAM, as well as the Facebook page of the same name. Sadly, they were successful in having both removed from Facebook. **Reminder that screen shots showing all this can be found here on the website. Sally Newton and Erin Costello This brings me to my last story about Sally Newton and Erin Costello. Two private people on social media. It has been alleged that Sally and Erin are behind some pages on Facebook like What's The Harm and NO MAM. Well, this is true for Erin, in fact this is Erin typing this out. However, I can not confirm or deny this accusation for Sally. That is up to her if she so chooses. For the sake of this post though I’ll just speak on behalf of myself. It is because of Kate, and others like her, that I am involved in any Facebook pages and even this website. The Kates of social media post a serious danger to our society. I don’t spend my time on this issue because I care about private people who simply make the private decision to no longer vaccinate. I think they’re nuts but I’m not going to address them in any fashion since they mostly are a threat to themselves and their family. But with people like Kate, people with an audience, this threat then becomes a real danger to all of us. As a result, I try and do whatever I can to help counter act the spread of these beliefs. I don't have the audience others, like Skeptical OB, has, nor do I have the same size audience of Kate. I realize that the odds of me making an impact at all are small, let alone making a noticeable impact. I am very likely just wasting my time, but that is fine with me. I could think of far worse ways to waste time. In fact, I have wasted my time in far worse ways in the past. I'm far from the only person who addresses these issues though. There are over 100 other admins alone that I know and consider colleagues who also cover the lies and dangers of the anti-vaccine movement. Many have been here for about a decade covering the spread of these beliefs, and most are far more qualified than I am. So it should come as no surprise to Kate that when she makes outrageous claims and encourages people to contribute to the decline of public health, myself and many others like me, post rebuttals. But….. KATE WAS NOT HAVING THAT! Due to What's The Harm's coverage of Kate's HB559 whining, Kate then commented to her followers asking that they report the Facebook page, What's The Harm, as well as mine and Sally's Facebook profiles. She apparently felt attacked for having her public actions publicly discussed. For someone so concerned about censorship, she sure likes to take the voices of other people away from them. Hypocrite Much? It seems free public speech without challenge is only a privilege for Kate, in Kate’s mind. She cries censorship every time she is denied even a single public post on social media, yet, when anyone else posts things that aren’t in line with Kate's beliefs then she has to sick her army on them to have their access to social media taken away. Kate doesn’t even do this attacking herself, she makes all of her followers do it for her. Kate regularly avoids confrontation with people she deems as the opposition. In fact, the person who posted this “message” to Kate discussed here is likely now blocked from viewing or commenting further on Kate’s profile page. Looking at the post now, I don’t see a reply from the person who commented so I could be right. The difference between MAM and her dissenters like myself, Dr. Amy, and many others, is that when any of us cover MAM in anything we write for internet publication, it is because of the harm she poses to the public at large, and specifically to everyone’s children. When MAM posts about her dissenters though, it is because she is butt-hurt and wants revenge on those who dared to question her. Kate has caused me to feel fear or concern when I’ve read the things she posts, though this fear and concern are not only on behalf of myself and my family but on behalf of everyone else. In fact, I am fully vaccinated and so are my kids. I don’t have much fear of concern for me and mine. What I feel is mostly on behalf of our society. Kate has never caused me to feel butt-hurt or anything personal for that matter. I have no desire to see her ruined. I have never felt the urge to ask or encourage anyone to approach Kate or to troll her social media. Too bad Kate can’t say the same thing. What Makes Someone Her Stalker? Though I do not know the person who commented this “message” on Kate’s post, I share every conclusion she has come to regarding Kate’s parenting choices. I also know Kate believes me to be some kind of obsessed stalker of hers. This then caused me to look at what sort of behavior Kate finds to be obsessive and who she accuses of stalking her. What I noticed is that it seems the only difference between “supporter” and “stalker," in Kate’s mind, is the difference in opinion one might form from Kate’s public sharing of her family and her life As much as I may read her posts or comments on her profile or in her group every week, I can confidently say I am not paying her nearly the same amount of attention as some of her followers. One "wannabe Kate" in particular, named Coraluna, comments on EVERYTHING Kate posts, and does so with such praise and adoration that we have often wondered if this person was really a troll. If I were to read all of Cora’s posts and comments on Kate’s Facebook for a week I would spend three times the amount of time that I currently spend on reading Kate’s shit. Yet, for some reason, Cora isn’t called a crazy stalker. I guess if I kissed Kate’s ass all day long I wouldn’t be viewed as one either. One could say that Kate loves the attention too much to get weirded out on how much interaction you have with her Facebook pages and group. In fact, I’d say Kate's take on this is that the more time you spend on all matters Kate, the better, unless you don’t agree with her every word, or if you dare to question Kate. It isn’t the time you devote to Kate that determines your mental health, it is your compliance, or lack there of, that indicate to Kate whether or not you are sane. Would I be going too far saying that if Kate had a penis she could be Donald Trump? Conclusion?
Though it is just my opinion, the conclusion I reach is that, according to Kate's posts about her "trolls," Kate should be automatically allowed to post all the shit she wants without question or consequence. She should be seen as an experienced authority on all matters of health, as well as listened to by all who read her words. As for those who don’t comply? They should lose access to social media and never be heard from again! And if anyone dares to express concern about the very public ways Kate manages her kids’ health, diet, education, or Kate’s very publicly shared and discussed ways of parenting, well then they are all just creepy stalkers with nothing better to do. Spoken like a true narcissist.
